$1,079 (was $1,349)

These skis were the second overall pick for SKI’s unisex frontside category this year, and while they don’t come cheap, they are a cool 20 percent off right now. Testers liked the carving abilities of the ski and felt they were best suited for advanced intermediate to expert skiers. Our review states, “Montero AR received its highest marks for Carving and Hard-Snow Integrity. Testers said it fit in perfectly at this year’s test site, excelling on the long, steep groomers at Sun Valley, Idaho.”

The Head Kore 97 is a jack-of-all-trades ski. The ski is a trusty downhill partner, but with a redesigned weight, testers also noted how it would perform just as well in the backcountry. The Kore 97 is a strong contender against crud and is great for edgework but lacks in the floatation department. “Testers agreed that the Kore 97 W is an ideal Colorado ski, or for anywhere you’re bound to find a wintry mix of pow, corn, and crud. Advanced skiers with technical backgrounds will certainly appreciate the carving capabilities of this ski, and many in our crew felt that it was familiar and inviting for those coming mostly from a resort background.”

Another strong women’s ski on a slick discount (we’re talking 40 percent!) is the Kenja from Völkl. This ski was ranked fifth overall in the 2022-2023 SKI Mag test, and testers gave high remarks for the ski’s performance and stability at speed. While best for confident intermediate to expert skiers, this is a work hard, play hard type, as the more effort you put into it, the more lively (and speedy) your result will be. Testers said, “It is certainly a beast of a ski, but if you put everything you have behind it, it’s a blast in all kinds of conditions, especially given its all-mountain build. At 88mm underfoot, it skews toward an all-mountain ski, but its Titanal frame construction and carbon tips give it the stability that makes it rival the best groomer skis on hardpack.”

Atomic Hawx Ultra 115 S Womens Ski Boots

$420 (was $700)

This boot was a favorite among testers because it’s both lightweight and a high performer. The boot is also easily customizable, which is a plus, so if you’re not quite satisfied after one footing, you can always go back. As tester Jake Stern explained in his review, “The revamped Hawx Ultra boot uses a new Prolite construction to increase stability while keeping the boot lightweight and easy to customize. The added stability comes from the reinforced power zones that cradle the foot and the back of the lower leg, which is where the majority of power comes from to drive skis.”

$450 (was $750)

Who says you can’t bring a playful ski into the backcountry? The Line Vision ski does just that while adding versatility and scoring high remarks for forgiveness. Our review notes, “While the Line Vision 98 is on the heavier side for this category, owing to its maple core, the stacked aramid (similar to Kevlar), carbon fiber, and fiberglass build give it enough damping to save some energy in your legs on long, chunky exits in variable conditions.” The ski is best for intermediate to expert skiers.

2023 Salomon S/Pro Alpha 120 EL

$420 (was $699)

This boot is made with a hard-core skier in mind. Our testers found the S/Pro Alpha 120 EL is light and “snappy” while being stiff where needed. This is a total product revamp from the earlier S/Max boot, but advanced skiers (the EL stands for expert line, after all) enjoyed riding in the boot. “It’s pretty stiff at the top of the flex and ramps up very quickly, then pops back upright the second you release the ski after the apex of the turn. This is a big difference from last year’s boot, which stiffened much later into the flex pattern and makes it feel a little more able to control quick, slalom-style turns.”
