Hungarian Vizslas are loyal, lively and loving dogs, earning the nickname 'Velcro dogs' because they like to be near their owners. They have plenty of energy and love to be outdoors, so make perfect companions to those who have active lifestyles.

Hungarian Vizslas are very people orientated dogs who love company. Because of their playful nature, they get along really well with older children they can play with. We wouldn't recommend a Vizsla if you have very young children as they are such boisterous and bouncy dogs they might knock them over accidentally.

While the breed is eager to please and highly trainable with positive reinforcement methods, the dogs have a sensitive nature and require the attention of a patient and doting caretaker. Vizslas that receive consistent training from a young age and are properly socialized can grow into affectionate family dogs.

I don't typically see this as the case, although if one person is the main caretaker and trainer, it would be logical for the Vizsla to bond better with that person. It's typical of the breed, and my own dogs to love people and for them to gravitate towards people, even strangers if they seem friendly.

The original “velcro dog,” vizslas are famous for following you around the house, demanding snuggles, and making sure you're never alone (yes, even in the bathroom).

Vizslas make good watchdogs and generally do not bark excessively. Well-socialized dogs are friendly to strangers, unless threatened. Vizslas may suffer separation anxiety and fear of loud noises such as thunderstorms.

They thrive in the company of others and don't do well when left alone for long periods. They can be very affectionate and tend to shadow their loved ones with little understanding of personal space. Many Vizslas love body contact and cuddles, but every dog responds differently.

By the time your Vizsla is 2 years old, then the dog will be ready to be a big brother/sister to a baby. This means that by the time your child is a toddler, your Vizsla will be past the hyperactive "zoomies" stage.

They're beautiful, mid-sized, short-coated dogs that are ideal for a family with kids. They're described as very affectionate, fearful but intelligent, and great all-around sporting dogs.

Aggression in dogs can be driven by fear, a desire to hunt, socialization problems, and territorial guarding, among other reasons. A Vizsla usually only becomes hostile if they perceive a threat to their family.

Intact males tend to be much easier to manage than females as they do not experience cycles, so care is the same all year round. While both have nervous tenacities, females are more prone to anxiety, so they are best suited for owners who will not leave them alone for long periods.

Vizslas are always golden rust-colored, with no variation in their coats. They have a similar brown eye color, which blends in with their coat. Their even brown tone makes them great at camouflaging, which comes in handy when hunting.

By the time they're adults, Vizslas have mostly reached their maximum size. A full-grown male can weigh between 45 to 66 pounds, while females usually weigh between 40 to 55 pounds. In terms of height, you can expect them to stand about 21 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder..

They are highly intelligent, curious, and sometimes manipulative, so owners need to establish solid communication and teach good behavior. Untrained Vizslas are hard to live with. They can find many creative ways get into trouble if they don't have a 'job.

Hungarian Vizslas are energetic dogs with big personalities even as adults, but you should notice slightly calmer behaviour when they're around two years old.

They do best, though, when they use their full brain with challenges and exercise. These dogs are great dogs for families with older children or young adults. They are active most of their life and need space to play as they grow. They're fun, loving dogs and want to make their owners happy.
