Jurassic World Evolution 2 has several game modes, including a Sandbox feature. However, you’ll have next to nothing when you start your run. Sure, you could pick the “Creative” setting to have a ton of cash and docile dinos, but there’s nothing to build or research. How to unlock all dinosaurs and buildings in Jurassic World Evolution 2
Truth be told, the process to unlock buildings and dinosaurs for Sandbox mode in Jurassic World Evolution 2 can be a little grindy. The mode itself doesn’t allow you to conduct any research or go on expeditions. The only dinosaurs that can be added to your park are found in the wild (i.e., on the map or via events). Worse, you don’t have a lot of buildings that can attract a lot of visitors.
To offset this issue, you actually need to complete your research while playing three other modes:
- Campaign – There are a few missions here with set objectives. One particular mission even has a bug involving the Allosaurus.
- Chaos Theory – These are “what if?” scenarios where you try to manage the parks from the movies (i.e., the Jurassic Park trilogy and the two recent Jurassic World films).
- Challenge – These are, technically, Sandbox runs. But, there are a few tasks that you need to complete, culminating in reaching a 5-star rating.
Unlocking stuff via Challenge mode
The easiest way to unlock most dinosaurs and buildings in Jurassic World Evolution 2 is by playing Challenge mode. Simply select the Canada map and pick the easy difficulty option. You’ll then see several tasks which you can complete at your own leisure. As for the process, we’re going to rely heavily on our scientists and research. Any buildings and dinosaurs that you’ve researched and subsequently built/released in Challenge mode will be unlocked once you play Sandbox mode. As such, our goal is to ensure that we can get as many as possible in a single run.
To get started, we’re going to need the Science Center, Expedition Center, Response Facility, and Hatchery (found in the Enclosures tab). Recruit a few scientists and construct a Staff Center later. This building allows you to train them (i.e., assign skill points obtained via research upgrades), as well as get them rested (remove stress pips if they’ve done too many actions).
Naturally, we’ll need to keep the cash flowing to continue our attempts further. This means conducting expeditions and hatching dinosaur clones. Make sure you’ve got enclosures as well so that you can release these majestic beasts in their new environments. Once you’ve got a single dino cooped up, tourists will start flocking in. You’ll have to focus on attractions and amenities to increase your income.
Eventually, you’ll be finished with the remaining Challenge tasks. Then, an objective to reach a 5-star rating appears. Just follow the same process as before and use your management skills. Reaching 5 stars will cause a panel to pop up telling you that you’ve completed the objectives on the Canada map. That’s totally okay. You should be able to continue your run indefinitely so you can get the dinosaurs and buildings.
What about the other unlockable dinosaurs in Jurassic World Evolution 2
It’s true that the vast majority of dinosaurs in Jurassic World Evolution 2 can be unlocked for Sandbox mode using the above methods. Examples include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, and Mosasaurus. However, a select few can only be found in Campaign and Chaos Theory.
In Campaign mode, the Allosaurus is unlocked after a very buggy mission. Moreover, there are some medicines and vaccines for diseases that can only be obtained as part of scripted moments. As for Chaos Theory mode, these are short scenarios based on the films. You’ll see the tiny Compsognathus (which can co-habit with almost everyone) and hybrids like the Indominus Rex.
